Spatial hosted an Educational Forum at the University of Technology Jamaica (UTECH) on May 20, 2009, which discussed GIS Modeling Technologies and the Progress of the Jamaica VRS Network implementation. This forum brought together approximately sixty (60) decision makers from across the public and private sectors in Jamaica with the Land Surveyors Association of Jamaica well represented.
The key presenter at this forum was Ms. Kerice Masters who is a graduate of the International Institute for Geo-Information and Earth Observation (ITC). Her presentation discussed “1D 2D Modeling of Sediment Transport and Deposition from Flash Floods” which will also be showcased in greater detail at the ESRI User Conference in July 2009. The second presentation entitled “Rethinking Mapping Infrastructure in the Caribbean” by Mr. Gregory Peake discussed Networked RTK approaches, the Jamaica GFIX Real-time Geodetic Network and the implications for mapping in Jamaica.
